Doctor Blog--Music and Children
Hello to my readers.
The past several days have been taken up with multiple events both in and out of town.
I have been slowly putting together information about the importance of music
in a child's life and this can be the first entry to highlight music.
Let me share with you some of the quality that children are capable of producing
given encouragement and time.
This child is 9 years old. She played for and won an international competition and
will be rewarded with a recital in New York.

-I'm sorry but the videos are no longer available.
-Personally, I do not like it when parents push their children too much one way or the other. It seems to me that some parents try to fulfill their own dreams in their children. Let it be becoming a doctor, a preacher, an athletic, a singer, or what ever.
I think parents should only help their children become wise and rational and then let them choose their careers on their own.
-Sorry for shifting away from the music topic

There was an embedding restriction on YouTube which did not become apparent until I published the entry.
I have provided direct links to the performances. Thanx for the heads up.
As far as the pushing, that is a point that lots of people seem to make. The issue is not really pushing them into a job or career. The issue is developing their talents to the degree that children can see fully what they can do (with some effort) and have a broad perspective on what is available to them thru these talents. How will kids know unless parents take an active role in developing them physically, mentally, and emotionally?
e.g. Most children would not, out of the blue, decide that they have a talent in ice skating, or finance, or being a chef, or any other field for that matter. It is in exposing them to what is available and in having their abilities in the spotlight that kids will learn of their choices and then be able to make a choice.
Wisdom and reason come with practice. Parents have an opportunity to provide their children with practice.

Perfect! Help them find their talents. No matter what it is and no matter how many they are. Then, when it is time to choose a career, leave it up to them. I am %100 for this.
What I dislike, is when parents push their children towards one particular thing, such as:
-An engineer who had a hard life, pushes all his children towards medicine. From a very young age, they drill it into his head: doctor doctor what do you want to become when you are older doctor doctor... Then, when its time for college, either you enter medical school or we will not support you ... we did not raise you and work hard on you all this time so you become so and so!
-Or poor parents whom push their little daughter into singing from a very small age so she becomes a singer, performer, or what ever and they take her to all the talent shows. Why? because this could get them good money later on.
Then when the poor girl is 20-25, she thinks to her self, OMG how did I end up here? what brought me here?!!
-Or the businessman whom pushes his children into business hoping they'll run the show after him..... and so on...
Now, that is what I do not like!
